Fixing the pieces

Isaiah 61:1

The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me, because the Lord has anointed me   to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted

Jesus came to bind up the broken hearted.

When something breaks your heart you feel like your world is ending. Like you will never be the same. We want to put the pieces back together so we can be whole again, but no matter what we do we’re still broken!

It’s like when you were little and you accidentally broke something, you  try to cover it up by fixing it. Your first thought is “oh snap!” Then you go in search of tape, glue, or super glue if you were allowed to know where it was at. You work so hard at getting all the little pieces put back in the right spot. Yet even though you worked so hard it still gets noticed that it’s broken. The cracks are seen, water leaks through, or it just crumbles again. That’s because you didn’t have all the right tools and techniques to fix it properly.

When our heart gets broken and our world seems to fall apart, we try to piece it back together on our own. The cracks are always going to show. There will be weak spots that are easily broken again and again. That’s because our technique for fixing ourselves is always wrong. Whether you turn to drugs, sex, cutting, or something else. They only momentarily ease the ache.

But God… God sent the ultimate glue! You think super glue or gorilla glue are awesome, wait till you use my Jesus! God sent him to bind up the broken-hearted. You don’t have to try and fix yourself any more. God sent Jesus, the ultimate glue used by the ultimate craftsman. Working together, when we allow them, to make us whole, and free from the cracks that have broken us.
